She has created the Build-a-House technique which allows the therapist to use play in family assessment. The Build-a-House technique is a non-threatening and yet powerful way to observe family dynamics, communication patterns, problem-solving skills and each family’s strengths. This family assessment technique, which can be performed in 50 minutes, assists me to develop the treatment plan and provides the necessary data upon which to base my decision to use individual play therapy and/or family play therapy.
